Activity Specialists offer you the opportuntity to demonstrate a skilled activity to other individuals. The Cedar Knolls House is looking for an energetic volunteer to work with youth ages 15-18, preparing recreational activities, trips, and providing fun and education supporting the LGBTQ population. Volunteer hours are flexible Sunday-Friday 6-13 hours per week.

Location Description:
Hawthorne Cedar Knolls (HCK) Residential Treatment Center is a home that provides mental health, social, and therapeutic services. A variety of treatment programs includes recreation, vocational, writing, and art therapy as well as drug treatment and prevention for at-risk youth. Approximately 90 beds are available for girls age 13 to 18 and boys age 8 to 18 who exhibit a variety of emotional problems. These children have been referred by Local Departments of Social Services or the local Committee of Special Education or Social Services. At HCK, they''ll receive comprehensive treatment, education, vocational training, supervised living, and exposure to independent living skills. Family involvement is an important component of the treatment even, or especially when being removed from the family environment is part of the treatment. At HCK, children are given permission to dream, to hope for and achieve a better life.

The Cedar Knolls House is looking for an engaging volunteer to conduct age appropriate groups, assist youth with obatining their vital documents (birth certificates, social security cards, NYC & NYS ID'S), attend college tours, and assist with vocational services in the community.
Volunteer hours are flexible Monday-Wednesday 6-13 hours per week.

Description

Co-Op City Non-Secure Placement Aftercare program helps families with youth returning home after they've been involved with the juvenile justice system. Aftercare helps the whole family work together to help the youth return to school and get along well in the community, as well as prevent future involvement with the juvenile justice and child welfare systems. Trauma Systems Therapy, or "TST," is a program for traumatized children and teens (ages 12 to 17). It helps them meet their emotional needs in the context of their lives with family, school and community.

Interns will conduct preventive services, clinical work, and child welfare social work.
